MEET COLIN
The brains and technician of the band!
Extremely good at counting to 4
Tell us a little about yourself in your own words.
Talented, dashing, excellent in all areas and humble with it - it all started with church choirs and piano, then a cathedral choir, however after ditching the church of england, i started tapping on things and i realised i drove people mad with it, so i took it further.. 😉
How did you learn to sing/play your instrument?
Trial and error, mainly error.
What inspired you to get into it and who are your biggest influences?
Tragically my IQ wasn’t high enough for guitar.
What’s your favourite song to play live?
I dislike them all equally.
What’s your favourite thing about being in the band?
Kebabs.
What’s the worst thing to happen to you at a gig?
The generator bombed mid set - marquee blackout, but played on acoustically until the generator was restarted, it was actually really well received an inadvertent blinder..
What’s your favourite lyric and how does it relate to you?
It’s not a ska song, but “it’s only the children of the fucking wealthy that tend to be good looking” - my parents had five quid in a savings account.
If the DekkerTones were stranded on a desert island, who would you sacrifice first?
Me
What would you say to someone who thinks ska is music for old timers?
Develop some perspective, oh, and grow up.
If you had to pick a different genre to play, what would it be and why?
Technical Death Metal
What’s your drink of choice on gig night?
Absinthe shandy.
If you could collaborate with any ska legend, who would it be?
Most are dead now, so a dead one that can do a convincing reincarnation act after being suitably rehydrated.
If you could enforce any band rule, what would it be?
Load in/Load out
If the DekkerTones were a tv show, who would be the villain, and who would be the hero?
Old man withers would be the villain and when “Ska-by Doo” turned up, he’d be the hero, “if it wasn’t for you death meddling kids, I would’ve gotten away with it…”
What ska song would you be happy to never hear ever again?
All of them.
